"This is a historic site for Poland. It was here that World War II began on September 1, 1939. The peninsula is home to a museum and several monuments dedicated to the Polish defenders who fell in that unequal battle. If you're a history buff, this place is a must-see. You can get there by sightseeing boat, which departs from the pier in the Old Town. As of June 8, 2026, a round-trip ticket costs 100 zl."

"Extremely important memorial site for the beginning of the world war 2. Its a place where you can feel the horrors of the beginning on the invasion of Poland. I recommend visiting this site since it reminds us not to repeat our terrible past. Its not easy to get there by car, further down the road like 1.5 kilometers there are parking by the museum where you can walk to the site by foot. Otherwise you can choose to park illegally by the road closer to the site."

"At the moment, Westerplatte is unfortunately a complete waste of time due to the ongoing construction work. The entire area is dug up, and the bus drops visitors around 1.5 km away from the actual monument, so you need to walk quite a long distance through construction zones just to reach the site. It is already fairly far from the city centre, so by the time you travel there from Gdańsk and walk back and forth from the bus stop, it easily takes around 3 hours in total (public transport and waiting times). Large parts of the area feel inaccessible and very clumsy to navigate at the moment. Another disappointment was that there was no proper access to the sea or waterfront during the visit. The monument itself is impressive and historically important, but currently the whole experience is heavily affected by the construction work. With the beautiful weather we had, this honestly felt like a waste of valuable sightseeing time. I would recommend skipping Westerplatte for now until the renovation work is completed."
